What a Wrong Judgement!
The second part of the Surat al-Qalam begins with questions.
As it is stated in the commentaries of Quran, disbelievers who were living in prosperity and wealth had established a reasoning against believers: "Considering the case that we are better off in this world than you are, then surely so we'll be in the hereafter, too...if there is a hereafter(!)"
And Allah asks them:
68:36-39. What is the matter with you? How judge you?
Or have you a book through which you learn that you shall have all that you choose?
Or have you covenants with Us to oath, reaching to the Day of Judgment, that you shall have whatever you shall demand?
It is important to find and to ask the correct questions. Actually, maybe even before the answers, one should have questions. Questions put the mind into motion...questions awaken man...questions trigger the search.
The disbelievers to whom those questions are asked, used to be called to prostrate while they were healthy and well in this world, but they did not. On that day when the curtain of Truth shall be lifted up, they shall be called to prostrate, but they shall not be able to do so...they will be so in panic...being a complete loser...
Then in the sura comes the advice for Rasulullah (pbuh) against disbelievers: Patience. He had to accomplish his mission and indeed he did...without falling into despair like the "companion of the fish". And that righteous Prophet Jonah (pbuh), too, got the blessings of Allah; he repented first and then his repentance is accepted.
Those disbelievers against whom Rasulullah is asked to show patience are those who would almost make Him slip with their eyes through hatredness when they hear the Quran. Whereas Quran is only:
wamaa huwa illaa zikrun lil-'aalameen
68:52. It is nothing else than a Message to all the worlds.
The suras which are revealed first, have emphasized the arrogance of disbelievers a lot. It seems to be that it is the arrogance in their hearts which prevents them from taking advice. Whoever has this feeling, he follows and obeys only his own self and nothing else.
May Allah give us the wisdom and the ability to separate the truth from the falsehood. May He increase our understanding and may He include us among those with whom He is well-pleased.
