Here is the Challenge!

The miracles of the Quran and that the Quran lets its opponents to fall into despair is a historical reality. Allah Himself has challenged those who have said "These are not the words of Allah", by inviting them to bring the like of the Quran.

am yaquuluunaftaraah
11:13. or do they say: "He forged it" ?
qul fa-tuu bi'ashri suwarin mislihee muftarayaatin
Say: "Bring then ten forged surah (chapters) like unto it"
wad'uu manistata'tum min duunillahi
in kuntum saadiqeen

"And call whomsoever you can, other than Allah,
if you speak the truth"

The logical reasoning is very clear and very strong:
Either you will admit that these are the words of Allah and you will act accordingly; or you will accuse the Messenger who brought these words, of being a liar.
There does not exist any other path inbetween.

This ayat in the Surat al-Hud eases the task in three aspects:

* Let it be not a whole book; but only ten suras.
* Let it be not the truth; but made up from baseless stories and imaginative tales
* Let it be not written by an unlettered person; but by a commission of the most learned and literary persons.

Result: The opponents of the Quran have fallen into despair, nobody has been able to accomplish this task.
Those who have been saying "These are not the words of Allah" have put themselves into position of a liar.

wain kuntum fee raybin mimmaa nazzalnaa 'alaa 'abdinaa
2:23. And if you are in doubt concerning that which We have sent down (the Quran) to Our servant
fa-tuu bisuuratin min mislihee
then produce a surah (chapter) of the like thereof
wad'uu shuhadaa akum min duunillahi
in kuntum saadiqeen

and call your witnesses (supporters) besides Allah,
if you are truthful

After the challenge could not been met in Makka, the restrictions were relaxed in Madina; the like of only one sura was sufficient now. But the result did not change. Since nobody could bring a like of Quran for 1400 years, the logic has just to admit that the Messenger (pbuh) did indeed bring the Truth.

This challenge has been stated in the 19. letter of the Risala-i Nur in a very nice way:

"Bring the like of this Qur'an by means of an unlettered person like Muhammad (pbuh)! If you cannot do that, let it be not an unlettered person, but the most learned and literary one. If you cannot do that, let it not be one person, but gather all your learned and eloquent ones and let them help each other. Also invoke the aid of your gods in whom you place trust. This too you cannot do: so make use of all the books of the highest eloquence that have ever been written and those that are still to be written, ask for their aid, and produce the like of the Qur'an. Still you cannot produce an equal to the whole Qur'an; so let it be the like of only ten suras of it. If you cannot match any ten suras truly and in all respects, then make them up from baseless stories and imaginative tales, and bring about something that will match only the poetry and eloquence of the Qur'an. If you still cannot succeed, then bring the like of only one sura, and not a long one; the equal of any short sura will suffice! Otherwise your religion, your lives and properties will be at stake both in this world and in the hereafter!"
...
"Dispute by words was impossible, and they had to resort to struggle by the sword."

If it were possible to bring a like of Quran, would they jeopardize their lifes and properties?
